To assist in quick reference guides for care and healthy living - here's a guide we have of our own.
Crested Gecko Care Guide
Enclosure Setup:
- Maintain moderate temperatures (72-78°F / 22-25°C) with slight nighttime drops.
- Keep humidity levels between 60-80% by regular misting.
- Provide a spacious, well-furnished habitat with climbing branches, artificial foliage, and hiding spots.
- Consider a bio-active setup with live plants, drainage layers, cocoa fiber, and proper ventilation for a natural ecosystem.
Diet:
- Offer a balanced mix of powdered gecko diets like Pangea, Repashy, or Lugarti's, and live insects like crickets or Dubai roaches.
- Dust insects with calcium supplements for added nutrition.
- Feed every other day, removing uneaten food promptly.
Daily Care:
- Monitor humidity levels daily using a hygrometer and mist appropriately to maintain humidity (60-80%).
- Ensure a clean bowl of fresh water is available every day.
- Check for shedding or health issues.
- Perform a thorough weekly cleaning, removing waste and refreshing their living space.
Bio-active Variants:
- Incorporate live plants like pothos or ferns, clean-up crew insects like isopods and springtails, and live moss for aesthetics and humidity.
- Use substrates like a mixture of cocoa fiber and soil base, along with a drainage layer for moisture management.
- Ensure proper ventilation within the enclosure for a healthy environment.
Enclosure Size Consistency:
- As crested geckos grow, ensure their enclosure size remains appropriate to their size.
- Upgrading the enclosure to match their growth helps reduce stress and promotes a comfortable environment.

Regeneration in Crested Geckos:
- Limbs: Unlike some other reptile species, crested geckos do not possess the ability to regenerate lost limbs, such as toes. Once lost, limbs do not regrow.
- Tail: Similarly, crested geckos do not have the capability to regenerate their tails once lost. Once a tail is dropped as a defense mechanism, it does not regrow.
Maintaining Cleanliness During Healing:
- It's crucial to keep the habitat clean when a crested gecko is healing from any lost limbs.
- Ensure a clean and hygienic environment to minimize the risk of infection.
- Perform regular spot cleaning and maintain proper hygiene practices to aid in their healing process.
First Aid for Wounds:
- If a crested gecko sustains a minor wound, carefully clean the area with a sterile saline solution or gentle, diluted iodine solution.
- Apply a thin layer of silver colloidal gel or a small amount of Neosporin (without pain relief or other additives) to the wound as directed by a reptile veterinarian.
- Ensure the enclosure remains clean and sterile to prevent infection and aid in the healing process.
